Integrated Circuits

The numbering scheme of the MC6800 family was fairly straightforward, with the "MC" prefix indicating a Motorola integrated circuit. The "68" prefix was a brand identifier for the family, with the following two digits indicating the specific function of the chip. 
This logical system allowed engineers to easily identify the role of each component within the larger system.

Family members were further identified by :ref:`additional components within the IC number <Packaging>`

Note that the IC part numbers within the following sections are as exhaustive as available information dictates. More information, and hence more IC part numbers may be added subsequently.
